Veon Wins Custom Bike Building Title

Belgium based Krugger Motorcycles walked away with the 2010 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building title with their creation called the Veon. This bike is truly unique in that it features an electronically adjustable frame system. At the flick of a switch the V-Rod powered bike can change from a short wheelbase sport bike to a low riding cruiser with a long rake. There are two different foot controls that can be used depending on which mode the bike is in. This is the first time Krugger has won the title after finishing as high as third in back to back years in 2004 and 2005.

140 Horsepower Ducati 848 EVO

The 2011 Ducati 848 EVO “Dark Edition” is not just a spin off of the companies best selling mid-weight superbike. It is a fully modified work of artistry, that will leave you wondering why all gear heads don’t get their kicks from a 140 horsepower Testastretta engine nestled between their legs.

The lack of $13,000 might be one reason, but the other is undoubtedly the risky nature and lack of control of many superbikes. These were never made for the faint of heart, but Ducatti’s top model 848 has tamed the beast somewhat more.

Ducati has reworked the chassis and brake system of the newest 848, adding a cross-mounted steering damper, Brembo Monobloc brake calipers, magnesium subframe, and a pair of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires. Traction control and ABS brakes are unfortunately still not available, however.

The “Dark Edition” wouldn’t be what it is without its sleek, bullet-proof, flat black paint job, although if you like cops, you can get the same package painted in bright red, for the more “classic” look.

Despite all the exterior and handling upgrades, the true highlight is its reworked Testastretta Evoluzione engine. The liquid cooled, L-Twin now boasts new cams, valves, pistons, cylinder head, racing throttle, and Marelli fuel injection system.

The exhaust has also been minimized to the barest essentials, featuring a lighter weight composition and traditional exit underneath the riders seat. These combination’s give the 848 a license to fly with 140 horsepower (10,500 rpm), 75 lb-ft of torque (9750 rpm), and a paltry 369 pound curb weight.

Try before you buy, has been a staple among the hardcore superbike track junkies, but since we’re limited to megabytes and pixels, a video will have to do! (after the jump!)

Look Out for the Big Dog!

Do you remember riding your Big Wheel when you were a little kid? Pedaling down your block as if you were king of the sidewalk. We do. But as much as we want that toy to be the inspiration for Tom Wilson, creator of a monster four-person, four-wheel big bike called the “Big Dog”, he says that he drew inspiration from attending Burning Man too many times. The “Big Dog” was built using seven bike frames chopped and welded into one big frame. It features among other things a go-kart hydraulic brake disc, front and rear twin shocks, four seats and four sets of pedals. The steering wheel is located between the front seats. The reason why the wheels are so big and the seats so high is to provide a panoramic view for each of the riders. Wilson has been asked if the bike is for sale and its not. Look for a new and improved version in the future since Wilson says that this is a first rather than a final design. Check the video below to see this baby in action.

Brammo Empulse: The 100mph Electric Motorcycle

Brammo’s newest electric motorcycle is called the Empulse and its claim to fame is that it can get up to speeds of 100mph. Better yet, the empulse looks like a normal bike! Usually electric bikes don’t look the part but the Empulse passes the eyeball test and delivers enough performance to satisfy. Three models will be available: the 6.0.8.0 and 10.0. The numbers refer to the range each bike can travel with the 6.0 delivering 60 miles, the 8.0 offering 80 miles and the 10.0 putting out 100 miles. Prices start at $9,995 for the 6.0 and $13,995 for the 10.0. The Empulse won’t be available until next summer but you can get on the waiting list now by putting down a deposit that is refundable. Check out the video below to see this baby in action.

A Masterpiece on Wheels

You are looking at an engineering and artistic marvel. It’s called the IF-Mode bicycle and it’s now available here in the states. Mark Sanders designed this bike with the idea of combining large wheels, which many riders prefer because of the ease of pedaling, with an easy folding, compact and clean design. Voila! The IF-Mode bike is the result. Even when its folded it rolls anywhere like luggage and avoids oily chains and complex tubes that normal bikes have. It weighs just 32 lbs. and comes in your choice of black or cream. This bike is designed for city commuters and of course all this ingenuity and cutting edge design come at a steep cost. You can pick up one of these bad boys for just $2,500…start saving your penny’s.
