NIKE AND (RED) UNITE TO LEVERAGE THE POWER OF SPORT TO FIGHT HIV/AIDS IN AFRICA
Today marks World AIDS Day, a day of remembrance for those who have died due to the to the pandemic, as well as the 33.2 million people around world living with HIV, the virus that cause AIDS. To announce its support Nike has joined join (RED), the global initiative, which provides treatments and medication to those with AIDS/HIV in Africa. In a public event that took place yesterdayin London, Nike CEO Mark Parker, along with (RED) CEO Susan Smith Ellis, and Prof. Michel D. Kazatchkine, the Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, were joined by some of the world’s most celebrated football (soccer) players on stage – Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Andrei Arshavin (Arsenal), Marco Materazzi (Inter Milan), Denilson (Arsenal), Lucas Neill (Everton), Clint Dempsey (Fulham) and Seol Ki-Hyeon (Fulham) for the unveiling the new Nike x (RED) products. Hosted by humanitarian and U2 front man Bono, the event showcase a range of apparels, footwears, and accessories, all adorned with the signature (RED) red colorway, from the new collection dubbed (Nike)RED. This include the (Nike)RED laces, which will be available starting today, to kick start the partnership. Additional product from the new Nike(RED) Collection will be introduce in the coming months. The new (Nike)RED Laces will go on sale today at all Nike Store locations worldwide, selected Nike retailers, and at nike.com.
